In partnership with BMM we propose to establish the Barry Moore Chair of Preaching and Evangelism at Ambrose University College.
The Chair would be dedicated to promoting and resourcing the vital function of biblically-based preaching and evangelism in the 21st century. Ambrose already has a 90-year track record in this area with our graduates serving in churches, para church ministries, and missions agencies across Canada and in 65 countries around the world. With the addition of an endowed chair we would be able to deepen our ongoing commitment to the emphasis of biblical preaching and evangelism, strengthening existing programs and launching new initiatives to provide resources to the church within Canada and abroad.
Typically, a significant proportion of a chair's annual revenues are devoted to the chair holder's salary and benefits depending on the level of funding available (see the following section for possible scenarios). The chair holder would be an exceptionally gifted individual with a calling from God to nurture biblical preaching and evangelism in our time. Their primary duties as a faculty member would be to teach courses and engage in research that would advance the interests of preaching and evangelism. This person would be identified by means of a search process functioning in accordance with Amrose's usual processes for faculty appointment, and we would welcome your input and endorsement as well. The incumbent would be subject to the terms of employment stipulated by the Ambrose faculty handbook with would mean, among other things, that they would be answerable to the academic dean, and would be held accountable in the usual categories of teaching, scholarship and citizenship/service. The teaching load would be adjusted to account for administrative and other duties associated withe the Chair. Depending on the level of funding available and the outcome of the search process, a faculty member already at Ambrose may be named to the Chair.
Additionally, the endowment would facilitate new initiatives including, for example, an annual public lectureship or workshop(s) on biblical preaching and evangelism, dedicated web space to provide timely and relevant resources to as wide a public as possible, and scholarship funding for exceptional Canadian and/or international students called to minister within the arenas of biblical preaching and evangelism. Related to this, we would also like to provide bursaries for preachers and evangelists based in smaller urban settings across Canada to take advantage of events and resources sponsored by the Chair We would also like to help ensure that important records and artefacts from your ministry over the years find a home that would maximize their availability to scholars, whether at Ambrose or another mutually agreed upon location.
The Ambrose commitment would be:
To provide responsible oversight to the health and productivity of the chair.
To maintain the financial strength of the endowment by careful investment strategies, and by including the chair in annual fund raising efforts.
To ensure that the chair holder is an exemplary individual qualified to hold the chair on the basis of both academic and personal criteria.
To ensure the ongoing presence of preaching and evangelism courses within the curriculum at Ambrose.
To provide institutional resources to support chair activities (such as lectureship facilities, space on the Ambrose website, archival assistance, etc.)
